DEEP THROAT CHOIR UVAS

Following on from singles 'Alchemilla' and 'In Order to Know You', Deep Throat Choir release new single 'Uvas', meaning 'Grapes' in Spanish. Commentiing on the track founder member Luisa Gerstein says: “Uvas refers to the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight to signal in the new year.  It is a song about all the histories that we inherit, from the tectonic to the minuscule.” A densely-packed group vocal opens the song, creating one ghostly chord that sits on top of a simple drum beat and delicately plucked harp. Fikir Assefa takes the lead with an enticing vocal melody whilst the others sing overlapping parts. As the song progresses, percussion and strings are added, creating a climactic sound, with the group singing the line, 'Before you were born, you were ships on the sea and emeralds in the dirt'. Deep Throat Choir's new album In Order to Know You is due 3rd December via Bella Union. -Ellie Rose-Davies
